In recognition of the 2024 UN Women’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, Pop In, a leading domestic violence charity, in collaboration with Ngununggula Gallery and Springett’s Arcade, will launch the “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables” campaign. This poignant art installation aims to raise awareness of the devastating impact of domestic violence on women and girls across NSW.
“Empty Chairs at Empty Tables” Installation This year’s local theme, “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables,” features a moving art installation to be unveiled on November 25th, 2024 at Springett’s Arcade, Bowral. The installation will include chairs, each symbolising a woman who lost her life to gender-based violence in NSW over the past year. These chairs will be painted by survivors, local artists, and community leaders, then displayed throughout the region over the 16 days.
Each chair tells a story, honouring the lives lost while amplifying the urgent need for action to prevent future tragedies. The installation will conclude with an online auction, where community members can bid on the chairs, with all proceeds going to support Pop In’s services.
