For more than four decades, Mr Fixit Bowral has been one of those familiar Springett’s Arcade favourites – the kind of place locals rely on for the small but important jobs that keep everyday life moving.
From shoe repairs and key cutting in Bowral to watch batteries, bag repairs, engraving, car key fobs and all those other “can you fix this?” jobs, Mr Fixit has long been part of the rhythm of the Southern Highlands.
Now, Courtney and Morgan are proudly stepping into the next chapter of this much-loved local business, bringing with them a young family, a deep respect for the shop’s history, and a genuine passion for repairing, restoring and keeping treasured items in use for longer.

Continuing the Mr Fixit Tradition in Bowral
Courtney’s connection with Mr Fixit began years ago, sparked by curiosity, creativity and a growing interest in hands-on repair work.
After studying fine art and exploring a few different career paths in the Highlands, Courtney found herself drawn to the practical, problem-solving nature of the work at Mr Fixit. Through friends who had worked in the shop, she began learning more about the trade and quickly became fascinated by the skill involved in repairing everyday items people genuinely cared about.
What began with small jobs, such as replacing watch batteries and car key fob batteries, gradually grew into a deeper passion for the craft. Courtney spent time practising shoe repairs on second-hand finds from op shops, slowly building her confidence, skill and eye for detail.
“Bit by bit, I proved naysayers wrong and fell in love with the job and the customers.”
That steady determination, paired with a genuine care for the people and stories behind each repair, is what makes Courtney such a natural fit for the next chapter of Mr Fixit.
Shoe Repairs, Key Cutting and Everyday Fixes That Matter
Part of what makes Mr Fixit special is that it is not just about repairs. It is about the stories attached to the things people bring in.
“Mr Fixit has impacted everyone in many ways over the 42 years Greg has run it. We save everything and anything. Someone’s grandfather’s watch, their mother’s Chanel handbag passed to them for their 21st birthday, cut a key to a house just bought, fix up their dad’s 30 year old RM Williams for a wedding, or a pair of school shoes that need new life for a younger sibling to wear the next school year. We are a part of the community’s everyday lives and memories, every step of the way.” says Courtney.
That is the heart of Mr Fixit. Yes, it is the place for shoe repairs in Bowral, key cutting, watch batteries and practical fixes – but it is also a place where sentimental items are treated with the care they deserve.

A Local Family Bringing Fresh Energy to Springett’s Arcade
Courtney has been building her skills in shoe repair for seven years, beginning right here at Mr Fixit before expanding her experience through other specialist roles.
“I began my journey in shoe repair seven years ago in Mr Fixit. Hungry for more, I worked part time in another reputable business in Sydney to expand my skillset and knowledge and bring it home to Bowral.”
Her journey later took her to Brisbane, where she continued developing her craft, including time spent working in a Doc Martens exclusive store and learning from one of the few remaining tradespeople who had completed the traditional shoe repair apprenticeship.
That depth of experience now comes full circle, back to Bowral, where Courtney and Morgan are raising their young family and continuing the Mr Fix It story from within Springett’s Arcade.
For them, being part of a long-standing local business is personal.
“Greg started this business to support his young family. He believes it is an essential part of maintaining the culture of the business and it’s part of the reason he hand picked us to maintain his legacy.”
Repairing Over Replacing
In a world of fast fashion and throwaway habits, Mr Fixit offers something refreshingly old-school: the belief that things are worth saving.
Courtney says that is one of the biggest reasons she loves the work.
“I love the feeling of saving everything and anything from landfill and breathing new life into items, fighting fast fashion one item at a time. We also take shoes from local op shops, repair them and donate them back for them to be sold. We do all we can to nurture a local culture of sentimentality, and repairing over replacing, and that’s what gets me out of bed each day.”
It is a practical service, but also a quiet kind of sustainability. Every repaired shoe, restored bag or working watch is one less item heading to landfill – and one more item with its story intact.

A Welcoming Local Business with Heart
Looking ahead, Courtney and Morgan hope to build on Mr Fixit’s strong local foundations while continuing its reputation as a warm, inclusive and helpful part of the Bowral community.
“As a neurodivergent myself, we hope to eventually hire other neurodivergent members of the community through the NDIS, saving them from being bucketed into overstimulating jobs in retail and hospitality and helping them develop skills that boost their employability and self esteems. The shop is a beautiful and nurturing place for all, and has a history of inclusivity we hope to expand on.”
It is a thoughtful vision for the future – one that respects the business’s past while gently expanding what it can offer to the wider community.
